Washington – The Speech delivered by His Majesty King Mohammed VI on Friday before the two Chambers of Parliament, marking the opening of the first session of the first legislative year of the 12th Legislature, marks a notable shift in cooperation with Europe on migration issues, said U.S. scholar Samuel Millner.
In a statement to MAP, Millner emphasized that the section of the Royal Speech on the issue of migration marks a notable shift, in that Morocco now intends to define the framework and terms of its cooperation with European countries on its own terms, free from rhetoric and controversy.
“This approach will reinforce Morocco’s credibility as a responsible and reliable partner that intends to present its own solutions rather than wait for proposals from Europe,” he noted.
Acknowledging that the current model of cooperation on migration has reached its limits, Millner added that Morocco, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, is preparing to present its partners with a document setting out a strategic vision that sets a new direction aimed at promoting co-development, economic competitiveness and regional stability.
